DAMASCUS: Syria s state-run news agency says Syria and Egypt have signed an agreement to transport Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon through Syria.

Wednesday s agreement is part of a deal under which Egypt will supply Syria with 600 million cubic meters of natural gas a year through a pipeline passing through Jordan. Syria will then supply Lebanon an equivalent quantity of its natural gas.

Last week, Egypt and Lebanon signed their part of the agreement.

Egypt is to start supplying the gas by mid September. The agreement is in effect for 15 years and open for extension. -AP
