CAIRO: Egypt s fixed-line telephone monopoly Telecom Egypt (TE) is finalizing a deal to resolve a two-year dispute over interconnection fees with two Egyptian mobile operators, a newspaper reported on Monday.
Under the agreement, TE would charge mobile operators Mobinil and Vodafone Egypt LE 0.07 ($0.01) per minute for calls from land lines to mobiles, TE chief executive Tarek Tantawy told the business daily Al-Alam Al-Youm.
Also as part of the deal, Mobile companies would pay TE LE 0.115 for calls from mobile telephones to land lines, Tantawy said. Implementation of the new agreement should take place within weeks, he said.
TE officials were not available for comment.
The two mobile operators, which have been seeking a higher tariff for fixed-to-mobile calls, have both appealed against interconnection rates set last year by Egypt s telecoms regulator, telecoms analysts say.
