GAZA CITY: Khaled Meshaal, exiled leader of Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, will go to Cairo on Sunday for fresh talks with Egyptian officials, a Hamas spokesman said on Thursday in Gaza City.
Sami Abu Zuhri said Damascus-based Meshaal will head a delegation of Hamas leaders from both inside and outside the Gaza enclave, which the group has ruled for two years since splitting with the Fatah movement of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.
The delegation will meet Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman and give an answer to Egypt s written proposals on reconciliation with Fatah, the Hamas spokesman added.
Suleiman has played a key role in indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel as well as between Hamas and Fatah.
Egypt has twice postponed the scheduled date for the signature of a reconciliation agreement in Cairo because of continuing disagreements between the two Palestinian factions. -AFP
