Samir Daqqaq to retire after 30 years with Marriott International

CAIRO: Long-time veteran of the hospitality industry, Samir Daqqaq, Marriott International’s vice president of global sales for Middle East & Africa, will retire at yearend, following 30 years of service with the company.

“Daqqaq’s strong cross-cultural knowledge and sensitivity, as well as his sense of honor and respect for all are unmatched, said David Townshend, senior vice president of global sales for Marriott International.

Daqqaq joined Marriott in 1979 as an administrative assistant at the Riyadh Marriott Hotel in Saudi Arabia, focusing on guest relations. Over the years, he steadily advanced through a number of key operational and sales positions, eventually becoming director of sales and marketing at the Amman Marriott Hotel in Jordan.

He served in similar positions at the Paris Marriott Hotel in France, the Warsaw Marriott Hotel in Poland and the San Francisco Marriott Moscone Center Hotel in the US before joining Marriott’s Global Sales Organization in 1993 as head of worldwide sales for the Middle East, Africa and the Sub-Continent. In this capacity, he opened Marriott’s first global sales office and reservations center in the Middle East.

Daqqaq is a 1979 graduate in hotel management of Cairo’s Helwan University. Over the years, he has been recognized by numerous organizations for his many contributions to the travel industry.
