CAIRO: Zamalek U-20 boss Magdi Al-Sayed believes that the misconduct of Ahmed “Boogy Fathy in Egypt s 4-2 win over Italy is excusable.
Boogy scored the Pharaohs third goal in the U-20 World Cup match few seconds after his introduction instead of striker Mohamed Talaat, but his goal celebration was controversial.
The Zamalek youngster, who was kept on the bench during Egypt s previous two games, appeared to be shouting in extreme anger at the technical staff members and his teammates as well.
Boogy was banned after the match, but Al-Sayed defended the talented frontman, saying that his behavior is not really beyond acceptable.
I really don t see a good reason for the wave of criticism that Boogy has faced, Al-Sayed told Zamalek s official website.
He only played for several minutes in the previous two games against Trinidad and Tobago and Paraguay, and thus felt that his dream to shine in the World Cup is far-fetched.
In the third game against Italy, Bougi showed what he s made of. He came on as a substitute 20 minutes from time to hit a brace and promote his career.
Speaking of the 20-year-old s weird celebration, Al-Sayed said: Maybe he was hysterically happy because he found the net right after his introduction.
His celebration came across as an attack on the coaching staff and his teammates, but this is not true.
When he notched his second goal, he was far less emotional and celebrated calmly along with his teammates.
Bougi completed the rout in Thursday s match by adding the fourth goal, and danced with some of his teammates in celebration.
