CAIRO: Ramses College in the Ghamra district of Cairo was closed for 15 days after the H1N1 virus was detected in two of its students, according to the healthy ministry.
Egypt’s Ministry of Health reported Saturday two cases of H1N1 in two 14-year-old students at Ramses College.
Ramses College is the third school to close in Egypt due to H1N1, while 26 classes have been closed since the start of the academic year in October.
Ahead of the start of the school year, which was delayed several times, the health ministry set stringent regulations concerning the decision to close schools and classes to limit the spread of the H1N1 virus.
Under the ministry regulations, schools are to close for 15 days if two or more H1N1 cases are confirmed in two students in separate classes. Classes are closed for two weeks if a positive case of H1N1 is detected in one of the students.
At time of press, the total number of H1N1 cases in Egypt reached 1,161, with positive cases among students increasing to 50. Of those, 1,096 have recovered.
