CAIRO: The H1N1 vaccine will arrive in Egypt on Sunday, said Minister of Health Hatem El-Gabaly, who will reportedly be the first in line to get his flu shot.
El-Gabaly told a local news program that he will be the first in Egypt to receive vaccination in order to assure citizens that the vaccine is safe.
Helwan Governor Hazem Al-Quweidi closed Wednesday the Egyptian Language School in New Cairo after the appearance of two H1N1 cases among students in different classes.
At press time, the healthy ministry announced 18 new H1N1 cases in Egypt – four of which are students – bringing the total to 1,211.
Two of the students aged eight and 12 are from Hosni Al-Aqad School, one nine-year-old student from Mohamed Farid School, both in Cairo, and a six-year-old student from the American International School in Alexandria.
This raises the number of H1N1 cases among students in Egypt to 69.
Three of the remaining cases were detected among university students: two 18-year-olds from Ain Shams University’s faculty of science and a 17-year-old from the Girls College in Cairo. Nine of those infected were Egyptian, one Italian and one British.
A total of 1,171 cases have recovered while 37 are receiving treatment in hospital.
