CAIRO: Telecom Egypt manager Hossam Hassan resigned after a poor start to their second-division campaign, the former Ahly and Zamalek star said on Wednesday.

My ambition has never been managing a team in the second division, Hassan told FilGoal.com.

I ve already accomplished my mission here, I don t want to stay.

Hassan, Egypt s all-time leading scorer, took over at Telecom in the latter stages of last season but couldn t help them survive relegation.

He opted to remain at the helm though but Telecom suffered two defeats in their first four games to cast doubts over their ability to regain top-flight status.

The temperamental coach, who also managed Masri in the Egyptian Premier League, was consistently linked in the media with Zamalek who endured a run of three matches without a win under Frenchman Henri Michel.

Zamalek fans want me to take charge of the team but none of the club s officials talked to me about that, Hassan added.
