CAIRO: The Marathon of Hope is coming to Egypt for the first time today.
Under the auspice of the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Sound and Light, the Canadian Embassy in Cairo, in collaboration with the Children Cancer Hospital 57357 and Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence, are organizing the first ever Terry Fox run on at the Giza Pyramids.
The Terry Fox Run is an annual Marathon held to help raise funding and awareness towards finding a cure for all cancers, a press statement read.
At the core of the Marathon of Hope is Isadore Sharp, founder, CEO and chairman of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, who was the first corporate sponsor when Terry Fox, a young Canadian man suffering from Caner began his courageous Marathon of Hope in 1980.
Despite having lost his leg to cancer Terry was determined to run across Canada from coast to coast, to generate awareness and raise money for cancer research.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts organizes an annual run in Terry’s name and works closely with the Canadian Cancer Society to plan the Marathon f Hope in cooperation with Canadian embassies worldwide.
Terry Fox Run is a volunteer-led event with no fundraising minimums, and participants are encouraged to make voluntary contributions.
This year will be held on site in presence of Canadian Ambassador Ferry de Kerckhove, with all funds going to Egypt’s Children Cancer Hospital 57357. -Daily News Egypt
