Vortex

Yet, Juzik reaches adulthood with his country innocence and good faith intact. The Frost

Director: Ferran AudíStarring: Bibi Andersson, Trond Espen Seim, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon and Eva MorkesetSynopsis: The film debut of Catalan theater director Ferran Audi, The Frost is a contemporary Norway-set update of Ibsen s play Little Eyolf. Norway s Trond Espen Seim ( Troubled Water ) and Spain s Aitana Sanchez-Gijon ( The Machinist ) play Alfred and Rita, a couple on a collision course after the accidental death of their son. The biggest change to Ibsen s original text is that Raul, the love interest of Alfred s sister, also happens to be Rita s brother, adding to the incestuous overtones.Showing at: Cairo Opera House’s Small Theater, 8 pm.

Director: Manuel ConchaStarring: Alexandra Dahlström, Rosa Inzunza and Oscar MoragaSynopsis: Twenty-two-year-old Marco has made his way through life without a care in the world. He’s never had a girlfriend, and he still shares a small flat with his Chilean immigrant parents and his little brother, but none of that bothers him – because there’s always tomorrow. Marco’s best friend, Mattias, on the other hand, dreads tomorrow. He hates his job, and he’s been with the same girlfriend, Petra, for the last six years. Showing at: Nile City cinema, 7 pm.

The Long Night

The once-upon-a-time actor, a dissident, is now in jail, incarcerated with three others in an ugly, dingy, leaky, damp room. The four try to keep their spirits up, but the eldest, Karim has given up. It has been 20 years in this hole, and not even the rumor that he might be freed makes him sit up in his bed. Showing at: Cairo Opera House’s Artistic Creativity Center, 6:30 pm.
