2 Spanish tourists missing in the Red Sea

CAIRO: Egyptian officials say search is under way for two Spanish tourists missing after their boat sank in the Red Sea off the beach resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

A security official and a Cairo police officer say the two were part of a group of 14 Spanish tourists sailing on an excursion to Tiran Island when their boat, the Coral Princess, went under in bad weather early Thursday.

The officials say rescuers managed to pluck 12 Spaniards and seven Egyptians out of the sea.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to speak to the media. They say the incident is under investigation.

Said Eissa of the Sinai emergency department says those rescued are well and didn t need any medical assistance.

Egypt s Red Sea coast is a major tourist destination.
