CAIRO: Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher held world governing body FIFA responsible for the clashes that followed Egypt s 1-0 loss to Algeria in last month s World Cup decider.
It was reported that a number of Egyptian fans were injured when masses of Algerian hooligans attacked them with knives and daggers after the game.
FIFA s disciplinary committee are examining the unfortunate incident and should take actions against the culprits in the near future.
More than two weeks after the match, Zaher pointed the finger at FIFA for not taking the necessary security measures in Sudan.
Forty thousand supporters from both countries traveled to Sudan in order to watch the game, he told Dream TV.
The stadium (Al-Merreikh s) accommodates much less than this number, and that s why those who didn t attend the game got into troubles.
Seven thousand from each side should have been the maximum number of travelers.
Tensions mounted before the game, and FIFA must have interfered. The game could have been held behind closed doors.
The EFA should submit evidences and documents that shall substantiate Egypt s claims about the post-match assaults.
We are going to send FIFA everything related to the incident, Zaher said.
The Egyptian investigations and other documents provided by the Sudanese authorities will all be sent.
