CAIRO: Egypt coach Hassan Shehata has agreed to sign a two-year extension to his contract with the national team, keeping him in charge until January 2012.
Shehata s contract was due to expire by the end of the 2010 African Cup of Nations, but the Zamalek legend is now set to stay until the Gabon finals.
It would have been difficult to travel to Angola knowing that my contract is expiring at the end of the month, Shehata told a press conference.
I agreed with the Football Association to take this step in order to retain the mutual respect and make the players feel confident.
Shehata is relishing the prospect of defending Egypt s title for the third time in a row as he stressed that no easy games are expected.
I don’t want to set a certain target in Angola, but I promise that we will do our best to win every game, added the Egypt boss.
We are competing in a tough group. Mozambique, for example, are not easy opponents that can be taken lightly.
We have seen few matches for them. They are a team that play good football.
Egypt will compete in Group C along with Nigeria, Mozambique and Benin, starting with the Super Eagles confrontation on Jan. 12.
