CAIRO: Egypt and Zamalek marksman Amr Zaki is fit to feature for the Pharaohs in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) after shaking off a hamstring injury, the well-built ace said.
I m fully ready to make a comeback after reaching full recovery, and I would like to play at the African Cup of Nations, Zaki told FilGoal.com.
Zaki aggravated his hamstring problem in Egypt s 1-0 defeat to Algeria in last month s World Cup playoff in Sudan.
However, the Bulldozer recuperated faster than initially expected, and now he has a substantial chance to make Egypt s CAN squad.
I just need to overcome the lack of match fitness, as I haven t trained for the past weeks, Zaki explained.
But Egypt s first game takes place in 20 days, so I have enough time get ready.
The robust hitman has been struggling with fitness problems since March, when he first sustained the injury in another defeat to the Desert Foxes in Blida.
The troublesome hamstring also forced him to sit out Egypt s Confederations Cup campaign in South Africa back in June.
Although he has finally recovered from his niggling injury, Zaki was unhappy because Egypt s coaching staff didn t pay enough attention to his condition while he was on the road to recovery.
I wish there was more coordination between Egypt s technical staff and their Zamalek counterparts, the 26-year-old said.
It s been three weeks since I started rehab, but no one pays attention to me.
(Playmaker Mohamed) Abou-Treika s chances to be included in the squad were negligible, even so, he was recalled. I was in a similar situation but wasn t named in the provisional roster.
Now I would like to inform the coaching staff that I m fit and ready for the African Cup of Nations.
