CAIRO: Ahly midfielder Mohamed Barakat has decided to delay negotiating a new contract with the league champions to the end of the season.
Barakat, 33, will run out of contract next summer, amid reports suggesting that he is unhappy with Ahly’s recent offers for an extension.
Barakat preferred to delay talks over a new contract till the end of the season, and the club accepted his decision, Ahly football director Hadi Khashaba told Egyptian radio.
It s his call now. If a player wants to leave, he can leave. We won t deny him.
In the same context, Khashaba indicated that striker Emad Meteb, whose contract expires in the summer as well, is eyeing a move to Europe.
Meteb is hoping to receive an offer from Europe, so we are waiting. Otherwise, he has already agreed to sign an extension, added the ex-Ahly skipper.
