CAIRO: Ahly star Mohamed Barakat has signed a three-year contract extension to put an end to speculations over his future.
Over the past few months the Red Devils couldn t agree terms of a new deal for the 33-year-old, which cast doubts over his future at the Cairo club.
But Ahly announced on their official website on Saturday that Barakat had already put pen to paper, and now he s bound to stay with the Egyptian champions till 2013.
Barakat put his signature to the contract extension after a brief meeting with club vice president Mahmoud Al-Khatib on Friday night, an Ahly statement read.
The details of Barakat s new deal remain undisclosed, but the Cairo giants assured that the mercurial midfielder turned down a number of lucrative offers to stay at Ahly.
Later on, Barakat stressed that he s fully committed to Ahly, saying no other club could have lured him into a winter move.
My loyalty to the club is non-negotiable, and I have proved all doubters wrong by penning a new deal, the versatile veteran commented.
After playing for Ahly, the most prominent club in Egypt and Africa, carrying on my career elsewhere sounds really absurd.
Barakat has been an integral part of Ahly s squad since 2004, and helped the team win numerous titles on all fronts over the past years.
