CAIRO: Egypt midfielder Mohamed “Geddo Nagi admitted that he was scared when coach Hassan Shehata told him to warm up ahead of his introduction in the Pharaohs 3-1 win over Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations.
Geddo, who scored on his international debut against Mali in last week s exhibition game, made his first competitive appearance with the national side to score against the Super Eagles.
The Ittihad star says he had butterflies in his stomach before replacing midfielder Hosni Abd-Rabou in the 77th minute.
When Hassan Shehata told me that I m about to be sent in I was really scared, but at the same time I was determined to prove my worth and repay the coach s faith in my capabilities, an ecstatic Geddo said.
Shehata was severely criticized for naming me in the squad, so I didn t want to disappoint him.
Geddo netted Egypt s third goal 10 minutes after his introduction.
