Amr Zaki admitted his below-par displays with Zamalek last year, but has an explanation for his poor spell upon returning to the Egyptian league.
Zaki, who is currently on loan at Hull City, was hugely disappointing in the first half of the Egyptian Premier League season as he failed to score a single goal for Zamalek after returning from Wigan.
But the Egypt striker says he couldn’t settle in Egypt because he was mentally attached to the English Premier League.
I know I wasn’t performing well with Zamalek but that’s because I was always thinking about the Premier League and its charm, Zaki told Modern Sport TV.
I used to play against Chelsea and Manchester United but suddenly I returned to Egypt and everything changed for me. I couldn’t settle in.
That’s why I was eager to make my return to Europe and thank God I got another chance at Hull.
Zaki implied earlier that he could start for Hull against Manchester City in Saturday s Premier League clash at the KC Stadium.
The 26-year-old, who hit 10 goals with Wigan last term, has only made a couple of cameo appearances for the Tigers so far this year.
