CAIRO: A two-floor building in Alexandria collapsed Sunday morning, killing three people and leaving four others injured, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Initial investigations revealed that a decision to demolish the property earlier in 2006 has been taken, but residents refused to evacuate on their own risks.
The top floor’s ceiling initially caved in, leading to the collapse of the whole building.
The victims include Sahar Abdel Moety, 34, and her nine-year-old daughter Eman Bayoumi El-Sayed, as well as Entesar Ahmed Gomaa, 37.
Rescue forces were able to save four people from the rubble.
The prosecution ordered the evacuation of neighboring buildings after inspections revealed that they are also at risk of collapse. -Daily News Egypt
