CAIRO: Paraguayan referee Carlos Manuel Torres has been chosen to officiate Egypt s friendly match with England next month, the English FA said on Tuesday.

Torres, who will be assisted by compatriots Miciades Zaldivar and Rodney Aquino, was selected after he missed out on a place in the World Cup.

The FA said that Torres choice is intended to assist the preparations for playing with a non-European referee in charge of the match ahead of the South Africa finals.

The game against the African champions is also intended to serve as a warm up for England s encounter with Algeria in the summer.

The Three Lions, a genuine candidate to lift the World Cup this year, will compete in Group B along with the Fennecs of Algeria, USA and Slovenia.
