CAIRO: England striker Wayne Rooney is hoping his team can benefit from meeting African champions Egypt next week in a friendly at Wembley.

The Egypt game is a big one for us, the on-fire Manchester United hitman said.

They’re coming off the back of the African Nations Cup, which they won. And we need to show we’re preparing well for the World Cup.

Three days before the Egypt match, Rooney will also be at Wembley as United take on Aston Villa in the Carling Cup final on Sunday.

Hopefully, I’ll play on Sunday and help us win the Carling Cup. That’s why you join a club like United – to win trophies and play in cup finals. Playing at Wembley is still a great feeling, he added.

The manager has rotated the squad, but I really hope I play. I missed the final last year as I was a bit ill before the game. So I want to play this time.

Rooney has been in devastating form with United so far this term, netting 27 goals in all competitions for the English champions.
