CAIRO: Ahly football director Hadi Khashaba believes that Zamalek have been recently trying to distract Emad Meteb.

The Egypt striker, whose contract with the Red Devils expires in the summer, made no secret of his desire to join a foreign side in the close season.

Zamalek have recently revealed their interest in Meteb, but the 26-year-old said he would only ply his trade at Ahly should he fail to move abroad.

Khashaba regards the White Knights overtures towards Meteb as a feeble attempt to sidetrack the international marksman.

Some people are aiming to negatively affect Meteb because he s been in great form of late, he told Ahly s official site.

Zamalek s approach won t disturb him at all, thanks to his experience and self-esteem.

Meteb hasn t decided yet whether to leave the Cairo club, according to former Ahly skipper Khashaba

He will make up his mind later this season. He s keen on joining a European outfit and we understand that, Khashaba added.

Meteb is said to be targeted by Fulham, Genoa and Kayserispor.

The Ahly homegrown star was close to completing a £1.5 million move to Bristol City in 2008 but the deal eventually fell through.

The English Championship outfit terminated their agreement with Meteb after he featured in an Ahly CAF Champions League game.

His participation was perceived to be a contractual breach, which prompted Bristol to back out of the deal.

Meteb was landed at Ittihad Jeddah on a year-long loan shortly afterwards, and rejoined Ahly last summer.
