CAIRO: Egyptian officials say 25 people have been killed in two road accidents in the country’s south.
A security official in the southern town of Sohag said 14 people were killed and five injured Wednesday when a van trying to avoid a parked truck collided head-on with another truck.
Another security official says 11 people were killed and four injured in Aswan when a van trying to pass another car hit a parked truck.
Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to address the media.
Road accidents are common in Egypt because of bad roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws. More than 6,000 people die annually in such accidents.
