Gold prices break decline wave in domestic market to rise in March

Gold prices broke the decline wave witnessed over the past two months in the domestic market during the month of March to rise.

This covered 21, 18 carat gold and gold pounds. This came synchronized with the soaring value of the Egyptian pound against the dollar, which averaged LE 5.47 in March.

A recent report released by the Cabinet Information and Decision Making Support Center showed that the price of gold pounds rose in March by 2.3 percent to reach LE 1,371 compared to LE 1,340 in the previous month.

The report also stated that 21-carat gold price increased by 2.1 percent to LE 1,71.2 per gram, compared to LE 1,67.6 in February, and also recorded an increase of 18.2 percent compared to the same month last year, which was LE 144.9 pounds per gram.

The report also pointed out that the price of 18-carat gram recorded an increase by 2 percent to reach LE 146.8 in March compared with LE 143.9 in February, and has also achieved an increase of 18.3 percent over the same period in 2009.
