CAIRO: Lawyer Amir Salem filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud Monday, to call for the release of Sinai activist and blogger Mosad Abu Fagr.
Abu Fagr has been detained in Abu Za’bal Prison for three years under the emergency law.
"The complaint also demands the investigation of state security officers in preparation for their prosecution, because they continue to issue arrest warrants against Abu Fagr under the emergency law," Salem told Daily News Egypt.
He added that the arrest warrants issued by state security officers against Abu Fagr are against the law and should be prosecuted under the penal code.
“This is considered an abuse of power and a threat to the freedom and livelihood of an innocent citizen," he said.
A copy of the complaint, obtained by Daily News Egypt, says that the Prosecutor’s jurisdiction superseded that of the Ministry of Interior and gives him the right to monitor the implementation of the law, including the emergency law.
