CAIRO: Hosni Abd-Rabou netted his seventh goal in the UAE Football League but could not help Ahly survive a 4-2 defeat by Jazira on Sunday.

The Egyptian midfielder, a set-pieces specialist, converted a penalty four minutes past the hour mark to narrow the gap after Jazira took a two-goal first-half lead.

However, Jazira scored two more goals in the second half to put the result beyond doubt.

Abd-Rabou, who scored twice in Ahly’s 8-0 drubbing of Ajman last week, was replaced on 80 minutes before Ahmed Khalil scored a consolation for the Dubai-based club five minutes later.

Title holders Ahly, who failed to replicate the form that saw them win the league last season, lie sixth in the table with 25 points.

Abd-Rabou is likely to return to Ismaili when he ends his two-year loan spell with Ahly after the end of the season.

Egyptian champions Ahly made no secret of their desire to sign him but Ismaili insisted he was not for sale.
