CAIRO: The Central Cairo prosecution office started on Monday investigations of a member of the April 6 youth movement, Ahmed Abu Doma, who was arrested during his participation in a demonstration organized by Members of Parliament to demand an end to emergency law.
The prosecution accused Abu Doma of gathering and assaulting a police officer in the line of duty and injuring two other officers.
Abu Doma was released from prison a few weeks ago, after completing a one-year sentence handed down to him by a military court for crossing over into Gaza through the Egypt-Rafah border without permission.
The April 6 Youth Movement filed a complaint to Prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, demanding the release of Abu Doma and the investigation of the police officer who is accused by the movement of assaulting the demonstrators during the MP demonstration.
The general coordinator of the movement Ahmed Maher told Daily News Egypt that “accusing an activist of assaulting a policeman is not something new for the Egyptian government, despite the fact that Security Forces are the ones who assault the demonstrators.
“The security services are used to giving false accusations like this after every demonstration, when we are assaulted by them," he added.
