RAFAH: Egyptian security and health officials say border guards have fatally shot a Sudanese migrant from Darfur trying to cross illegally into Israel.

The officials say the guards fired warning shots Sunday to try to stop 39-year-old Adam Ali Mohammed.

Mohammed died shortly before reaching a hospital in the city of El-Arish.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Many African migrants seeking asylum and jobs try to cross into Israel with the help of Bedouin traffickers. Egypt has killed dozens of migrants in the past two years, drawing criticism from rights groups.
