CAIRO: Ahly striker Emad Meteb is set for a two-month layoff due to a nagging back problem, the league champions said.
The news means that the Red Devils will be without their top scorer in the Egyptian Cup campaign as he could fly to Germany for treatment.
Meteb enjoyed a fine season with Ahly, scoring some decisive goals for the club.
His last goal was the opener in a 3-0 Champions League win over Ittihad Tripoli, three weeks before he had netted a brace in the Cairo derby against Zamalek.
"The players’ safety comes first. We will miss Meteb a lot, but we have to think for alternatives," Ahly boss Hossam Al-Badri said.
Meanwhile, Algerian starlet Amir Sayoud will not take part in the cup campaign as he will join his nation’s Olympic team this month.
The 20-year-old finished a fruitful loan spell at Kuwait’s Al-Arabi, but Al-Badri stated that he accepted the player’s request of going on international duty.
