CAIRO: Gouna joined the race for Ittihad Alexandria midfielder Mohamed Nagi ‘Geddo’, who will be in the middle of a transfer crisis this summer.

A source in Gouna told FilGoal.com that the club have contacted Ittihad to express their interest in the African Cup of Nations top scorer.

Ittihad chairman Mohamed Moselhi told Gouna that he has to consult the board of directors before giving the final answer.

Geddo turned from nobody to a national hero in February, when he scored five goals for Egypt in the African Cup, including the winner over Ghana in the final.

After returning from Angola, it was revealed that Geddo has signed for Zamalek as well as extending his contract with Ittihad.

"I am sure Zamalek officials will not take any steps that might jeopardize my career," Geddo said in April.

But both Zamalek and Ittihad announced they will register the player in their new season’s squads, which means Geddo will face a lengthy suspension due to signing for two clubs.

Still, Gouna are ready to do business with the Alexandria club over a summer move.

Gouna, managed by former Zamalek and Egypt captain Ismail Youssef, beat the drop on the last day of the season, with a 1-1 draw with Masri.

They hope to reinforce their squad in their second season in the Premier League by signing Geddo in addition to four players from Zamalek.

Ahmed Magdi, Ahmed Al-Merghani, Sherif Ashraf and Mohamed Abdul-Monsef are Gouna’s targets after Zamalek manager Hossam Hassan said he doesn’t need them in the next season.
