Turkey’s ?? Bank on Tuesday inaugurated a representation office in Cairo, over half-a-century after the bank’s branch in Alexandria was shut down, reported Turkish new website Today’s Zaman.

Speaking to reporters at a ceremony in Cairo, ?? Bank Director General Ersin Özince said its first branch in Egypt was opened in 1932 and it was nationalized in 1959.

"We are so happy that we set a foot in Egypt, although with a representation office, after a very long time. We are eager to upgrade this office to a branch in the shortest possible time," Özince said.

Özince said the representation office in Alexandria would provide services also for Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
