Investment Minister Mahmoud Mohieddin inaugurated Sunday an Indian textiles exhibition and a fashion show organized by the Export Promotion Council of India in cooperation with the Indian embassy in Cairo, India’s Ambassador in Cairo R. Swaminathan said Monday.
Textile is a successful industry in India, the Indian diplomat told MENA.
The industry has achieved self-sufficiency in raw material production, he said, referring to textile exports worth $3,534 million annually to 168 world nations.
The Middle East and the Gulf are the most importers of Indian products after Asia, he said, adding that the main importers of Indian textiles are the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Brazil, the United States and Germany.
