A joint venture of Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) has won a contract worth $750 million to expand Qatar’s international airport, the firm said on Wednesday.

BESIX Group, itself a 50-50 venture between OCI and Belgian construction group Besix, will team up with Midmac Contracting via BESIX Group’s fully-owned unit Six Construct Qatar to provide all structural, mechanical and electrical works and design coordination for the airport’s lounge and retail area.

Six Construct Qatar’s 50 percent stake in the project is worth around $375 million, OCI said. Six Construct/Midmac joint venture is also working on a project at the Doha Convention Center and Tower awarded in 2009, it added.

The project at the Doha International Airport is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2012.
