CAIRO: Tens of Ahly fans clashed with police during a friendly match that saw the Red Devils crush Kafr Al-Sheikh 5-0 on Tuesday.

The mass brawl, sparked after Ahly’s opener, resulted in several injuries on both sides. Some supporters were eventually arrested.

Controversial fan firm Ultras Ahlawy lit roman candles throughout the stands to celebrate Ahly’s first goal.

Fireworks are prohibited inside Egyptian stadiums.

The ardent supporters turned violent when security forces tried to force them to put out the banned fireworks.

The game was halted for a while and resumed after the situation was contained at Mokhtar Al-Tetch Stadium.

Apart from the fierce clash, Mohamed Ghaddar, who joined Ahly on a trial basis this summer, completed the Cairo giants’ rout with a brace.

Mohamed Abou-Treika broke the deadlock upon converting a penalty kick. Ahmed Shokri and Sayed Moawad scored one each afterwards.
