Shurat HaDin filed the lawsuit in a New York court on behalf of "91 American, Israeli and Canadian victims of Hezbollah rocket attacks" that were launched during a 2006 conflict between Israel and the Lebanese group.
The suit seeks some $1.2 billion in compensation from Al-Jazeera, claiming that the Qatar-based television station "intentionally provided real-time coverage of the locations of missile strikes inside Israel in violation of Israeli security regulations, thereby enabling Hezbollah to aim its missiles more accurately."
The plaintiffs, who include individuals who were injured in Hezbollah attacks or whose relatives were killed in strikes launched by the group, accuse Al-Jazeera of "an extreme anti-American and anti-Israel political agenda."
"Al-Jazeera allowed itself to become a crucial component of the Hezbollah missile offensive. The intent was to assist Hezbollah in targeting and killing civilians," said Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, an attorney involved in the suit.
