JERUSALEM: Israel’s security service says it has nabbed a cell of Hamas members who killed an Israeli policeman in the West Bank last month.
The Shin Bet said Monday it arrested five members of the Islamic organization responsible for the shooting. The Shin Bet said the men confessed and handed over the weapons they used.
The June 14 shooting killed a police officer and wounded two others in a rare flare-up of violence in the West Bank after months of calm.
The Western-backed Palestinian Authority has limited powers in the West Bank under Israel’s overall security control and has launched its own crackdown against Hamas.
Violent attacks have diminished in recent years, thanks in part to increased security cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian forces
