CAIRO: Zamalek have acquired the services of 33-year-old center-half Mohamed Younes on a free transfer from second-division Telecom Egypt.

Zamalek marketing director Ashraf Sobhi confirmed to FilGoal.com that the former Ismaili and ENPPI defender agreed a three-year deal with the Whites.

According to his agent Samir Abdel-Tawab, Younes had to buy out the remainder of his contract with Telecom in order to make the Zamalek move.

The veteran defender played under Hossam Hassan’s management before Telecom’s relegation in 2009.

He is expected to be a backup for regular duo Mahmoud Fathallah and Amr Al-Safti.
"We were running out of time and the team needs a center-half, so we made the move," Zamalek director Ibrahim Hassan said.

"Younes is a well-experienced player and I think he can add a lot to our squad."
