CAIRO: Zamalek released Mohamed Abdullah just two weeks before the start of the season.
Abdullah has re-signed for Zamalek late last season and joined the preparation camp in Germany and Switzerland.
Reports say that Abdullah’s place in the squad will be saved for a new player set to join Zamalek in 24 hours.
The versatile midfielder is the second player to be released by his club without even playing after Gamal Hamza’s contract with Ahly was terminated earlier this month.
Abdullah could be playing next season for newly-promoted side Smouha, who are coached by former Egypt manager Mohsen Saleh.
Saleh, while in charge of Ismaili 10 years ago, was the first coach to introduce Abdullah to Egyptian football.
