Elie Baroudi, managing director of Lecico Egypt, said that the company plans to launch the first phase if the new tile plant in Burj Al-Arab Al-Gedida city by the end of this year, Al-Mal reported.
The first phase was initially scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2011.
The company is completing the procedures of importing and installing the required equipments for operations in the first phase.
The project’s production capacity is expected at 6.5 million square meters with an investment cost of $42 million, Al-Mal reported, and will be established through Lecico’s fully-owned International Ceramics S.A.E.
Ceramic tile production in the second phase is expected to start by mid 2013, while porcelain production is due to start in 2015.
