CAIRO: African football governing body (CAF) announced on Tuesday that the 48-year-old Egyptian will resign from his current role to become FIFA’s Director of Competitions in September.

Fahmi will replace American Jim Brown, who decided to return to his homeland for family reasons.

Earlier this month, Fahmi has been handed the task of overseeing the organization of the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Holland.

Fahmi, a General Coordinator for FIFA, took part in several events with the world governing body, but for the first time had he been in charge of the final.
