BAGHDAD: Officials say gunmen have blown up the house of a policeman in the former al-Qaeda stronghold of Fallujah west of Baghdad, killing him, his wife and 4-year-old daughter.

The police and hospital officials say the house in Fallujah’s Karmah district was blown up before dawn while the family was sleeping.

The police officials suspect al-Qaeda militants are behind the attack.
Seven other family members, including four of the policeman’s sons, were wounded.

In Baghdad, police officials say a roadside bomb apparently targeting a police patrol missed and killed three civilians traveling in a car and wounded eight bystanders.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
