CAIRO: The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) will hold its annual conference ahead of the People’s Assembly (PA) elections, Abdel-Ahad Gamal Eddin, senior party member and head of the majority bloc at the PA, told Daily News Egypt.
“At the conference, the NDP will likely put forward its political program [for the coming year] and throughout the elections,” Gamal Eddin added.
The conference is due to be held on Nov. 9 – 10.
According to Gamal Eddin, the NDP will likely compete for parliamentary seats in all constituencies nationwide.
NDP Secretary General and Shoura Council Speaker Safwat El-Sherif said in press statements following a meeting with President Hosni Mubarak Wednesday that the party will release its electoral program early enough to prepare for the PA (Lower-House of the Parliament) polls slated for late November, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
El-Sherif further noted that the NDP’s annual conference this year will focus on presenting the electoral program for the PA elections in addition to discussing issues of concern to public opinion.
The NDP currently occupies 333 of the PA’s 454 seats.
