TEHRAN: Iranian media says two passengers were lightly injured when a plane skidded off the runway after landing at an airport in northern Iran.

The state news agency IRNA says the accident happened late Thursday in Tabriz, some 600 km northeast of Tehran, after heavy rains in the city.

IRNA said Friday there was no significant damage to the aircraft, a Fokker-100 owned by Iran’s national airline.

Iran has a history of frequent air accidents — including planes and helicopters — blamed on its aging aircraft and poor maintenance.
