Egypt buys 57,200 tons of rice from local market

Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) said on Sunday it had bought 57,200 tons of rice from the local market through a tender.

Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of GASC, told Reuters the price range was LE 2,000-2,230 ($360.9-$402.4) per ton.

The quantity was due to be supplied to consumers under the subsidy program between Sept. 9-30.

In its latest tender on Aug. 3, GASC bought 80,000 tons of rice from the domestic market at LE 1,979 per ton.
