NAIROBI: Police in Kenya said Monday they had arrested a radio journalist on suspicion of links to a bombing in neighboring Uganda which killed 76 people in July.
The journalist, a presenter on Radio Salaam based in the coastal city of Mombasa, was arrested on Saturday and taken to Nairobi for questioning, regional police Chief Leo Nyongesa said.
"We have handed him over to the anti-terrorism police unit department," Nyongesa said.
A total of 32 people have been charged in Uganda for carrying out the July 11 suicide attacks on two bar-restaurants in Kampala which were crowded with people watching the football World Cup final on television.
Interpol said they were traced through a mobile phone found in an unexploded suicide vest in what would have been a third attack venue.
Somalia’s Al-Qaeda linked Shebab insurgents said it carried out the attacks to punish Uganda for its participation in the African Union peacekeeping force in the lawless Horn of Africa country.
