Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem refused to talk about his prospective new life as a father, when he presented his new film "Eat Pray Love" with co-star Julia Roberts at a film festival in Spain on Monday.
The two stars arrived for the San Sebastian film festival in northern Spain late on Sunday amid a media frenzy.
On Monday they attended a news conference, and organizers had requested journalists not to ask them about their personal lives.
But one reporter was undeterred, inquiring of Bardem whether becoming a father next year would upset his professional career.
It was Roberts who jokingly responded with one word in Spanish: "Cuidado!" (Be Careful!).
Bardem’s wife and fellow Spaniard Penelope Cruz, 36, is four-and-a-half months pregnant with her first child, her agent announced last week.
The couple married in an intimate ceremony in the Bahamas in July.
Bardem, 41, won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as a vicious murderer in the 2007 movie "No Country For Old Men", making Cruz and him one of only a handful of Hollywood couples who have both won an Academy Award.
The actor had plenty to say about his next project, a film, as yet untitled, with US director Terrence Malick, which is to begin shooting next month.
"I’m one of the few privileged people in the world to work with this master," he said of Malick, who is a "visual poet."
"He has a very unorthodox way of working and that’s what attracted me a lot."
Malick, 66, has made just four feature films in his career, including "The Thin Red Line" and "Badlands," all critically acclaimed.
