GENEVA: The Organization of the Islamic Conference on Wednesday put forward a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council to condemn a US clergyman’s plan to burn copies of the Quran.

The plans for "Burn a Quran Day" by Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center church in Gainesville, Florida, have been canceled.

Nevertheless, the OIC called on the 47-member council meeting in Geneva to pass the resolution to condemn "the recent call by an extremist group to organize a ‘Burn a Quran Day’."

The resolution lodged by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC also condemns the advocacy of religious hatred, and calls on the international community to stand united against events that could undermine peaceful coexistence. –AFP
