Hawass visits Queen of Spain, lectures at Royal Palace

CAIRO: Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, was hosted by Queen Sofía of Spain in her royal palace in Madrid, where he presented his newest book “Secret Voyage.”

According to a press statement by the SCA, the Queen was impressed by the content of the book and decided to present it as a masterpiece to the visitors of the royal palace.

Hawass will send his first copy of the book to President Hosni Mubarak to show his appreciation for what Mubarak accomplished for Egypt and its people, the SCA said. The next copy will be sent to President Barack Obama, followed by a plethora of other worldwide influential figures thereafter.

Hawass was in Spain to give a lecture in the conference room inside the Royal Palace of Madrid, discussing Egyptian monuments to over 1,700 attendees. The ambassador of Egypt in Spain Ayman Zein El-Dein delivered the opening remarks for Hawass’ lecture.

The President of the Spanish Repairers announced that Hawass was chosen to deliver this lecture due to the excellent service he has provided both Egypt and the world at large, the SCA said.
