CAIRO: The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) announced on Sunday the launch of a campaign against sectarianism in Egypt under the slogan “We are all one in Egypt – I reject sectarianism.”

EIPR stated that their campaign is a call for collective action against sectarianism, aimed at promoting the values of equal citizenship and coexistence in Egypt without discrimination on the basis of religion or belief.

EIPR Executive Director Hossam Bahgat said, “While this movement is part of our ongoing work to defend the equality and freedom of religion and belief, we realize that it cannot succeed if it is our movement alone. We believe that this campaign will only succeed if it becomes a voice for the Egyptians who believe that ‘we are all one in Egypt’ and who fear for our future from the rising sectarian tension … but are full of hope that we can eliminate sectarianism.”

The campaign will include a number of activities, including production, supply and distribution of information materials and advertising, infomercials about sectarianism.

The center will also launch an interactive map as part of the campaign’s activities to monitor accurately and objectively incidents of sectarian violence or tension across the country’s governorates.
