CAIRO: Sunderland are seeking to sign their ‘gem’ Ahmed Elmohamady on a permanent basis in the January transfer window, according to manager Steve Bruce.
The Egypt international, who joined the Black Cats in the close season from ENPPI on a year-long loan, has produced a host of impressive displays in the Premier League so far this term.
Bruce announced that Sunderland are willing to activate a clause in the deal to turn it into a permanent transfer.
"The fee is agreed between the clubs and we’re possibly looking to do it in January. We would love to make that permanent – he’s a gem," Bruce, who has always been full of praise for the right-sided midfielder, said.
Elmohamady has been one of Sunderland’s regular starters this season, thanks to his scintillating form.
Recent reports claimed that Premiership big guns Manchester United and Arsenal were keeping tabs on him.
